I got this one a while back, off Ebay.It is a small jack, with plastic jigged scales. The blades snap like a mutha',hardly any play, either.LarryM took pictures of it,and sharpened it up for me.It's like a little razor. It is 3" closed, and has half - stops on both blades.

You can barely make out the tang stamp

How old you guys think this one is?

This one, came from an on-line dealer. It is stamped Ulster Knife USA.Jigged plastic. And the blades, seem to be Stainless. A Fake ?

Man, I love those swell end jacks. They're just, uh, swell! That one looks like a great, all around, general carry knife.

That two blade congress looks like it would be a great edc for an office environment. The sheepsfoot and that little pen blade are just the ticket for an office knife.

Both have some nice character.

Both knives are genuine.

The Pine Knot was made circa 1920s to 1930s by Imperial for Belknap Hardware Co of Louisville Ky.

The Ulster is circa late 40's to mid 60's made when Ulster was a mid grade brand made by Imperial Knife Associated Companies.

Knifeaholic,on the Ulster knife, would ss blades be correct,as well. Thanks for the info.

Stainless slipjoints in that era were pretty rare in general...especially in the congress pattern. My guess would be 1095 carbon.

Knifeaholic,Yes,that is why I said,"a fake ? ",cause the blades seem to be ss,when tested.

Smell 'em. Carbon steel has a distinct odor that SS doesn't have. If you can't tell the difference, then... sounds weird, but it's true... taste 'em. Carefully. Carbon will taste VERY metallic, while SS has virtually no flavor.

puukoman,I'm gonna give it the apple peeling test, when I get around to it,for sure. But you are right, you can taste that carbon!
