I need to find out where to get some pink canvas micarta or, linen micarta to make a handle for my H.I. British Army Service kukhri. I have no idea on where to find this stuff.

I dont mind it being another material, only that it is pink, and I can afford it on my college student budget.

I probably will need at least 2 blocks of this stuff. One so that I can figure out how to make a proper kukhri handle through trial and error, the other for the finished product.

I hear this is the place to post for such questions, and that this forum has some of the best knife smiths in the world on it. I am open to your ideas and suggestions, please ask any questions.

Thank you :)

There is a color of Dymondwood called "Passion wood" that is a bright pink color. A set of scales will cost you about $3.

i think the other starving student you want to talk to is (crayola) find one of his posts and give him a e-mail. i remenber he posted a pic of a hot pink handled knife that was enought to give radiation burns:D

I saw a pink handled bowie at the End of the Trail SASS Championship.
Very nicely done blade. The handle was bone. The gent that made it said he was a trying to dye the bone a different color and instead of what he wanted it came out bubble gum pink. I can't remember what he used, but you might to try coloring some bone.
Regards, Greg

Makers name was Peter Bromley. (509) 534-4235

Thanks Rhino!

I work in all sorts of colors :)

I have used dymondwood scales called bubblegum, which were a pink and blue combo. My girlfriend likes her knife very much :)

I don't think there is pink micarta, so dymondwood would be your best (easiest/cheapest) bet.

You can dye block nylon, so you can give that a go. I don't know where to get block nylon though.

Well...I know it sounds wierd, but I am sure yall will understand.

I recieved the blade at next to nothing (trust me it ain't junk), but this was because of a tang break. I just got the tang fixed after a move, and now I cant find the handle that came with it.

Besides, have you ever seen a Pink Handle on a kukhri? There are none.

Also...I could carry it for "emergency" purposes. "No...really officer." :o

Also...imagine Rambo with a pink handle on his knife. It is humerous on many levels, and at the same time you will never lose it.;)

Dave, :D !!!

Consider dyeing and stabilizing a block of some clear wood like Birch. It's cheap, hardly any figure, is really hard and seems to me like it would soak up the hardener very well. Bruce E has a thread going on just this subject right now.

It might be so cheap and easy you could keep doing it until you get just that right shade of Hot pink...

I'd say Ripper is on the right track. Go to K-mart, grab a sterilized beef bone in the pet section, costs around $3, a bottle of cheap bleach, and a box of red or burgandy RIT dye. Bleach the bone first with 2 parts water, one part bleach. That takes out the artificial beef jerky smell. Sand it to the dimensions and finish that you want, (Don't breathe the dust) then put it into a cup large enough to hold it with a couple of inches to spare, preferably with a lid. Add the RIT dye and hot water. I usually add salt to help the dye take better. If it's too dark, use the bleach again, but in a very low concentration, until you have the color you want. Set the dye with vinegar, and laquer, otherwise your hands will be pink every time you use it for many years, and it will happily stain clothing.
Hope this helps.
