Pinkie loop vs wrist strap

Maybe this has been covered before here, so I won’t go into great detail, but I’ve always found a pinkie finger loop to be very effective in the same way a wrist strap is. It’s surprisingly secure, even on a big knife for batoning, though not 100 percent secure like a wrist strap is. Then again, it’s much smaller and easier to slide in and out of without needing the other hand to adjust it. Anybody else use this?

(Pic: the Izula has nothing to do with this thread, just the RC-4 with the loop)

I use this technique as well. I don't like having a long lanyard hanging off the end of my knife, and this pinkie loop serves the same purpose.

Hmm, never seen that before.

I usually use the thumb loop, wrap-around-the-hand lanyard method, unless chopping with a large knife, in which case I like to have the lanyard around my wrist so I can grip the scales with my thumb and index and middle fingers for the chop, leaving my last two fingers free.

I use a pinkie loop on my smaller knives but on the larger ones I use a lanyard that has a sliding bead on it.

I like to wrap the lanyard around the palm of my hand. Especially for choppers, dont want to lose control of something like that

I'm another who doesn't like a long tether flopping around, but I also judge my pinkie (alone) to be a weak anchor. I set up my lanyards to loop over both pinkie and ring finger.

I rarely do lanyards except on larger choppers. I don't like them much on anything I wear on my hip, always seems to snag on brush.

Pinkie loop? That just sounds gay:D

Just kidding, I have a pinkie loop on my izula. I like to have it there just in case I am using the knife in the middle of a stream while fishing.

I too use the Pinky Loop on my Izula for when over water or just when you need your knife, your hands free, your knife, your hands free ect...
I finished off the wrap into a loop with a paracord knot wrap-thing about an inch/half long. Makes it just long enough so the pinky loop reaches around your pinky when you grip it, but keeps the loop tight on your pinky. It works pretty good, you can just drop the knife when you need to use your hand for something, the knife just dangles off the pinky, then give it a flip to fling the knife back into your palm. Works well for me!

I'm attempting to attach pics. one of the loop in the stored postion, one deployed in hand.
