Pinned micarta handle question?

Hello everyone,

Although I am a frequent visitor here on bladeforums I read more than rather write.

I recently purchased a Spyderco Temperance 2 and I really love this knife. The blade shape the size the weight... it feels just right for me:thumbup:!

After deeper observation on the second day I had the knife... I discovered a flaw that concerned me and I discussed the issue on the Spyderco forum.

It concerned the fact that the micarta slaps which are pinned did have on the very front some minimal gaps which were almost undetectable with the naked eye between them and the tang of the knife.

I am a person who likes to fix things rather than complain and so I did use some epoxy like adhesive (available to me here in Greece at the time) to fix the problem.

It worked out fine and I was satisfied with the result.

After a month and a field trip I decided to clean/wash the knife with some water and dish-soap and than I realized that there are a few places where the water finds its way between the slaps and the tang.

By pushing the slaps the water extracts in really tiny bubbles. (I mean tiny but still...)!

So my question goes to those who have experience with knifes that have fixed micarta handles:

... Is it common for pinned micarta slaps to let moisture slip between them and the tang?
... should I be concerned?
... is there a good solution?

I am afraid about rust...

Thanks for any answer and have a good day!

The pinned handles is the main reason I didn't get the Temperance 2. I love the look and ergos of the knife but the pinned handles I just couldn't take :(
My experience with VG-10 from Spyderco has been pretty good. I'm no expert but I've used a few VG-10 Spydies in high moisture environments and they haven't rusted on me. I think you should be fine as long as you keep salt out of the equation.
