Pinned or pivot screws on handles, is there a big difference?

Looking at the different modern folders out there, is there a big difference between the pinned scales or handles and the pivot screws holding everything together? If so, which do you prefer?

I would like say that screw construction is better because you can dis-assemble your knife for cleaning, but considering some companies will void your warranty for simply adjusting the pivot, I've come to like pinned construction better.

I will never again own a folding knife with a pinned pivot. On a custom they may make sense, but on anything else there's absolutely no reason to use such an unserviceable and wear prone design.

When someone says "pinned vs screw construction" it doesn't mean the only thing holding the knife together is he pivot pin, it simply means that instead or screws you can remove it uses rivets or pins that arnt serviceable.

Take the spyderco manix 2 LW, it comes in an older version with pinned construction or a newer screw construction. The knife has exactly the same number of fasteners, one is just riveted and can't be adjusted (by the end user, by the factory, by anyone) while the other uses screws.

I would say that personally when it comes to my normal manix 2 LW that I'm glad that the pivot screw is torx so it's adjustable by the owner while the rest is pinned for ease of not having to maintenance.

When it comes to bali's it's only torx....only screws that are okay. Can't have handle play that is unfixable.

Im all behind pinned stainless spyderco...

NO problem with loosening screws. And this will always come when you start playing with turning, cleaning, adjusting...
With pinned spyderco you just get a knife that works for decades without anything more than cleaning with hot water...

Same with buck 110

I've gotta go with screw together construction. I prefer being able to adjust tension, take the knife apart for cleaning, etc.

There is a huge difference. People routinely disassemble screw-construction knives, assemble them incorrectly and break parts. That doesn't happen with pinned-construction knives. :D
