Are stainless pin materials superior to nickel silver materials. If stainless is superior...what alloy is best? This would be used for pivot pins as well as scale pinning material. Thanks

I use 300-series rod for pinning guards and bolsters. Its soft and blends well. For pivots, I'd go with something harder, or capable of being hardened. Try 400-series steels for good results with that. 440C is pretty cheap these days. It works well, and can be purchased in precision-ground rod.
