I'm having trouble finding pins for the Bocote scales I'm putting on my knife. Can anyone refer me to a supplier please?. Is there any home made source for pins? Mosaic pins are pretty neat and I would really like to buy some of those. Thanx-

Mosaic pins are cool and they do get a lot of attention from people who are looking at the knife. They are available from Knife and Gun Supply, Texas Knifemakers Supply, Downieknives.com and others to name a few.

Something you might want to consider. Without fail, when I show someone a knife with mosaic pins, they say "Wow! Did you make those too?"

It is so nice to say "Yup!"

If you do a search on the old archive for this forum, it is detailed and not so hard to do.

Gerry, anyone who can grind like you do can't possibly find mosaic pins difficult. What were you using for suction? It's really quite easy and no mess. The hardest part is the weird looks from the people in the store when you are waving around a dozen 3 foot lengths of various rod stock searching for an interesting pattern.

Me too Rob! The mosaic pins from TK are awesome but I would be interested anything you might have as well. I really appreciate the info. JH, how did you get bocote handles to look so great? Mine is coming out dark and not gold. Did you do something to lighten it first?

Crow, have it stabilized. Stabilizing enhances the colors in all woods, and many woods that are not thought of as being spectacular become pretty fancy after stabilizing. I have to say though, bocote seems to work better on larger knives. You might also look for some bocote where the figure is not too tight. Fewer lines tend to look nicer. Too many lines make it look darker as you are seeing.

Thanks for the info. Stabilization must be it. I really appreciate the help. I think I'll name my first born knife Rob or Jerry.
