Pioneer I vs II

What is the big difference between the two knives? One person told me that the first pioneer was unreliable due to a bad spring but the problem was corrected in the Pioneer II. Another told me both knives are great but the Pioneer II will flick out almost like a gravity knife.

What have you all found? Pioneer I knives are appearing at cheap prices but are they really a bargin?

I think the biggest difference is that the lock release lever on the Pioneer I is at the top of the knife next to the blade, while on the Pioneer II the release is a slide lever on the left scale.

A friend of mine has a Pioneer I and he can open it in gravity-knife-mode by releasing the lock and then flicking it open. I believe all Rolling Locks use the lock to hold the blade closed, so releasing the lock lets the blade open and close freely.

Pioneer I's are nice knives.

Good to hear that the Pioneer is all right. BladeAuction.com is having a big blow out from pvknive. You might be able to pick one up for under $60. I'm not sure about myself.
