The Pioneer ll series has the new slide bar.The lock is the same it just is more user friendly. With the slide bar there is also a compression coil spring which is better than the old wire wrap spring. The dimensions and blade designs are the same as the Pioneer Series. Hope that clears it up.

Are their any faults with the old wire wrap spring? Can I pay to have mine "converted"? -AR

Jackyl,
I have three of the old style Pioneers and love them.
Two of them had premature spring failure.
This occurred over a year ago. Bob Taylor explained that he was experiencing inconsistancies with the spring wire supplied by certain manufacturers.
He repaired mine with new stock, and I've had no further problems to date.
Bob also provided me with a supply of spare springs to keep the knives working forever.
The new coil spring removes REKAT's dependance on the integrety of out-sourced spring wire bent in an unusual configuration.
It is a definate improvement. However, there is nothing wrong with the old style pioneers if you have a good spring.

Can I get some springs to do this myself??? I feel comfortable with trying it myself and I wouldn't expect a free rebuild even if I screwed it up. Let me know if you will do this Bob and I'll do whatever it takes to get some on their way to me. Thanks -AR
