Let me begin by saying I have never taken a one handed folder apart. So if my questions are out in left field, feel free to blast me. I'm just looking for a project. That said, here goes.
If one wanted to disassemble a knife with the goal of making imporvements, would this be a good candidate? Could the opening and unlocking action be improved with some time and polishing? Perhaps a bushing upgrade at the pivot?
When I handled this knife, I loved its heft and sturdyness. I hated that the lock release stuck so badly.

Gary, the Pioneer is a superb knife to tinker with. You can do everything with your Pioneer that you can with the Carnivour because they are essentially the same knife from a construction point of view. Take a look at my webpage and find the link in the laft-side frame that says "Carnivore Project" and you'll see a bunch of pictures of my recently-modified Carnivore. Here's a preview:

You could do the same exact thing with the Pioneer. I haven't gone into instructions on how to do all these things, but you can find instructions on how to improve the feel of the knife on several Carnivore threads in this very forum. Spend some time looking in the last few months' worth of posts and you'll find all the instructions you need to having this thing working better.
