I am looking for a belt sheath to carry my new Pioneer. Leather is a must. It needs it to look good, not out of place with dress-casual. I've looked at the Victorinox Zermatt, but I have heard that it might not fit so great. If anybody makes one, or knows where to buy omelet me know. Keeping in mind that I'm a college student with little free money.

I have the medium Zermatt, and it's a fine sheath, especially for one that's less than $10.00, and it's USA made; that said, I simply took one of those round self sticking chair foot pads made from felt that one sticks to the bottom of chair legs to protect wood floors, and placed it over the brass snap inside the sheath. The Pioneer rides nice and snug now, and the pad prevents the possibility of the exposed brass snap from marring the knife.

My Zermatt looks great. It fits my Farmer fairly well, the Pioneer being one layer thinner may benefit from the trick above to snug it up.

Excellent solution Al!

Thanks for the photo, Al. The sheath looks great, the orange ALOX is fantastic, and your solution to exposed metal inside the sheath is ingenious!!:thumbup:

One of those sheaths would make an excellent project .
I would unstitch it , then line the inside with thin leather to achieve better fit and protection for the knife and then restitch it with better thread , maybe even a different colour like I saw someone had done on another forum .
You wouldn't need much time or money to turn it into a very good sheath .
How they make them for that amount of money is still a mystery to me .

The other option available to you is to make your own sheath .
That way you can make it the way you want in regards to design , for example do you prefer horizontal or vertical , open top with friction retention or flap with fastener , also it gives you many options of colour and embellishment .
But most of all making your own is fun :)

Good luck .
