First, some background:
My father is a plumber in Texas. He has literally destroyed, worn out, or broken every knife I have sent him over the past 8 years. Most of them within the first month or so. (Yes, I sent him good ones!) You just THINK Cliff Stamp can abuse a knife!
I had heard a lot about REKAT and had handles some of the Fangs and a Pocket Hobbit, so this past March, I ordered a REKAT Pioneer (Clip or Drop Point) for his birthday. My first impression of the knife was "Wow! this thing is built like a tank."
I sent the knife off with a short note that read, "If you break this one, I quit."
When he got the package, he called and said, "Wow! This thing is built like a tank."
I called him regularly the critical first few weeks to check on the knife. He kept assuring me that the knife was fine, it was easy to keep sharp, and everyone he showed it to liked it.
A week or so ago I was on the phone with him and he said that a guy that he works with came up and said, "Hey, Joel, can I borrow your knife?" My dad looked at the clip hanging out of the guy's pocket and said, "You've got a knife! Use it." The guy says to my dad, "Man, this thing cost me $60.00! I'm not using it for a work knife!" My dad said, "Well, if you don't feel comfortable using a $60.00 knife, I don't think you should use this one either. I think it cost more than that." (Dad still didn't know how much they cost.)
While on the phone with me he sneakily and politely asked, "If I were to lose this, what would it take to replace it?" I told him what retail was and after he picked the phone back up, I repeated what I said. He said, "Well, it's worth every penny. It's the best knife I've ever had." After I picked up the phone back up, I asked him to reapeat that.
Daddy's happy. You don't get a better review than that.
