The usual reason to not use pipe for a canister Damascus is pattern distortion, correct?

So if I wanted to make a can with a few bearings and some powder, with distortion being acceptable or desired, I could use pipe, correct?

Kind of dumb, but I have pipe and am out of the appropriate walled square tube lol.

Is think that part of the problem would also be that the powder would move allot when you pressed.

Then again, you could just make the pipe square with your press first...

I think it could work well. Use black pipe not galvanized. With the first heat use your press to square the pipe up and go from there.
Let us know how it turns out.

I sent Indian George a bunch of 3" and 4" thin wall stainless pipe to use many years back. Maybe Fitzo knows how it worked out? I have read where others used black iron pipe for a billet with ball bearings.

Sorry, Stacy, I do not know. IG and I have only spoken a few times in a number of years. I was hoping his 6th sense for me posting would draw him back here. :) Talk to me, IG!
