Here's the first one for 2011. Mild steel with piece of file for the cutting edge. Brass bowl. Brass bands inlaid in curly maple and pewter mouth piece.

Beautiful piece Stuart, I love the fine rocker engraving, a truly classic pipehawk.

Very best regards

Robin

I really like those brass inlays. I've always wanted to pour some copper or brass but I dont have the gear for that. Pewter it remainds for me.

Hi Stuart,
Bloody magic piece mate .
Hi Pullrich there is no way you can pour copper bands.

Nice piece. I wish my my Sioux Catlinite/red rock pipestone piece could also do battle and chop.

Is your Pipe and old one? Could we see pictures? I am a Pipemaker, would love to see it.

Best regards

pipe, its not a Hawk, just a Sioux elbow pipe made from Catlinite. Same red rock as you may have seen in Dances with Wolves etc. I got it in Minnesota at the Pipestone National Monument where I grew up. The natives are only allowed to dig the soft rock out of the ground(sacred blood rock). They have a small shop in the interpretive center and the local Sioux craftsmen make pipes and other baubles from their Pipestone. Each pipe comes with info about the maker. Some go for over $1,000 with effigies(bear, eagle, claw, turtle and axe head). I bought a few pieces of the red rock from them to do my own projects. Havent done anything yet, but I did buy a pipe from them for $50. My stem is also of red rock with a wood core to smoke through. If I can figure out how to post pics I'll show it.:)

pipeman, thats beautiful:). My pipe looks very similar to your's in design except its shorter and the wooden stem runs down the middle of my catlinite stem in a regular fashion. Thats very unique to have the smoke travel along the sides and I can say I never have seen that.

PSP, thanks for your comment. We have kind of highjacked Stuarts thread here. If you would like to discuss Sacred Pipes we could do it in the link I sent you. There are not many Pipe makers around ;-))

Best regards

Robin
