I have the original E2D and the upgrade is the same price as a new Surefire E2D LED. I want the LED upgrade but why pay the same price as a new one.

sell the E2D and get what ya want or suck it up and pay for the upgrade is about all ya can do,

but i feel ya, SF is awfully proud of there stuff, good stuff it is though.

i suppose ya could always just get a drop in LED for it a little (lot?) cheaper.

The LED upgrade for the E2D is the KX2 head. The KX2 head is self-contained. You can't buy an LED bulb like you can for a 6P, etc. I purchased one when they came out, but now they go for over $100. I haven't seen the street price for a new E2D, but surefire quotes $149.

I feel your pain.

ya could also forget about the crennellations and get a KL4 head, or swap the crennelations onto the KL4, IIRC ya can do that, ya would also have to find a black KL4 if it matters to ya if the colors match, most KL4's are green but the scout lite KL4 is black. i have seen used KL4's for ~$75.

i'm not a big fan (actually not a fan at all) of the crennelations anyway imho all they are good for is tearing up your pocket, folks who think waving EKI's is hard on the pockets should try packing a E2D around for a while lol.

That's what the e2e is for. LOL

Actually, it looks like the kx2 head doesn't have the strikeface like the original e2d head does.

no fooling lol??

well the poster said he wanted an LED upgrade for his E2D(not an E2e), and i suggested another option.

FWIW i have an E2D with a KL4,

Don't forget those guys in Aussie land that were selling a drop-in for the E2 series.

Those seemed viable.

OK, forgive me. Why not buy a Fenix with more power for less $$?

I gotta agree with Dave on this one. Since I started carrying a Fenix L1D at work, My Surefire 6P hasn't been out my desk drawer. I guess I just got tired of how quick the lithiums go dead. But gmarthur is absolutely correct. People will usually stick to what the like irregardless of the merits of other products:thumbup:

When I have good stuff that isn't practical to upgrade, I either keep it for backup or casually give it away at a holiday party or the like. That old friend who has always admired your light but with whom you don't usually exchange gifts: "Happy holidays good buddy!"

fenix is good but they havent replaced my surefire L4 yet, and i have a really neat P2D-CE w/a leef clickie which i edc.

both are great brands but i still think SF makes some sizes and styles for different things which fenix doesnt, though they are coming out with new stuff constantly.

if i could have but one lite it would be a SF L4 FWIW.

luckily i can have more than one though lol...........

I have changed from SF to a relatively unknown LED called the O Light. It has 3 different levels of light and also features strobe and S.O.S. It is alot less expensive and imo is really much better.

I know a fella who said if you want to compare a Surefire to "Nameyourbrandhere" just take each and throw it as hard as you can at a brick wall. He believes the Surefire will stand up to it but will the "Nameyourbrandhere"...?

Personally, I'd rather not throw a surefire at a brick wall, it was too damn expensive. :p

I have taken the O Light put it on stobe mode and put it in water (fish tank) and it lasted over 7 hours. No brick walls yet. I love SF, as of today I do think they finally have legitamite competion. In the past I don't believe they had any at all. And yes they are built strong. Didn't mag light advertise that some sort of truck could run over their light and it still worked. Kind of like a wall......

Depends on if you're still using the Xenon bulbed versions. 60 minutes is a bad runtime, but with the new LED's, it kinda leaves Fenix in the dust. I've been using my SF's for a couple of months, and I don't believe there's a better flashlight. :D
