Thanks again to RL for posting those pics for me. He touched them up a little also for your viewing pleasure.(and my lack of photography skills).
I liked all the knives that Shawn McIntyre had there and should have taken more pics of his table. The sheath on the one pictured is Emu leg leather and it looks even better in real life. The handle on that knife was Roosa stag. This was one of my favorite knives at the show and it stood out from 5 tables away and would be a marvelous collection piece.
He had a fellow Aussie next table over named Doug Timbs of Dark Water Knives and he had a nice knife also unfortunately my pic didn't turn out well on it. Both these guys were great to talk to and although my Texan and their Australian "language" left a lot of "what did you say?" in the conversation, I managed to learn a lot from them.
Pete Peterson was great to talk to also and I tried to convince him I was his bastard love child from the 60's so I could get the family discount rate but he didn't fall for it.
Besides the knife posted here by Joe Flournoy, he also won the Clyde Fischer Best Hunter award and he his holding that knife in the picture with that award
Ron Newton did a demo on forging rain drop pattern damascus and he did a really good job in his presentation. He was really friendly and answered everybodys questions in a way that even us dunmmies could understand.
Dickie Robinson also did a demonstartion on forging and I could have sat out there all day listening to these guys share their knowledge.
Here is the rundown of awards as best as I could hear them so if I screwed up on some names, I apoligize here first:
Best ARt Knife: J.W. Randall
Best Hunter: Mike Williams
Best Bowie: Ron Newton
Best Folder: Jerry Grice
Best Combat: Joe Fortnot
Best Fixed: Jerry Fisk
Hope I got all the spellings right.
The best part of the whole show was the looks on my boys faces when I gave them their new Camillus lock-back knifes that I got at the show. My one son stuck his knife in a potato overnight per Wallace Finnell's instructions at the show and he really likes the look of it.
Samhell was great to hang with at the show and he is really knowledgeable about knives and the various makers so I was able to learn a lot from hanging out with him. I had pics of a Don Lozier knife but it didn't turn out too well so might be able to post them at a later time if I can clean them up a little. Had a great time and thanks again to RL for posting these pics. Pistolpete
