Pit where blade meets guard?

Hey guys, I think this is my first post, although I've been lurking here a while and have become enthused (sp?) with custom knives.

Anyway, I recently bought a loveless style hunter and where the knife meets the guard, there appears to be a small pit (not a rust spot - more like a spot where a the underlying metal is exposed) in the crease. Do knifemaker's solder or put some type of seal in this area? I'm thinking of sending it to the maker, but if there's something easy I can do, I would rather not, as it's not that big a deal. However, I have to clean around it or it becomes discolored.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Most makers solder or press fit with JB Weld -- your best bet is to contact the maker and see what he/she says about it. You don't want corrosion to start in the pit so it needs to be taken care of.

BTW -- welcome to the forums! :D

That sounds like you are seeing a solder-pit. They can trap a little flux, and sometimes can even take years to appear. Then, a little entrained flux will seep out and look like a small hole with a spreading discoloration. Not terribly uncommon, but not real desirable. I'd contact the maker and see what they'd say......
