I have been reading up on the Ubejane that Piter modded to be renamed"Scout" and I like it very much. I doubt very much if CR will make this knife as implored. I also have a Ubejane that I use a lot and also want to mod it . Do you think it is unethical for me to do this? It is my knife and I find the blade too heavy but I like the grind on it as it is almost like a drop point. Any remarks from CR fans??Piter, if I do mod it I hope you don't mind as I think it is terrific mod you have done and I don't think the Scout will ever materialize knowing Mr. Reeve will not even guarrantee any modded knives of his.Mr. Piter, I respect your opinion and if you think I should not do it, I won't. Thanks.

Generally speaking, you can do what ever you want to one of your own knives. Trademarks/copyrights/ethics would only prevent you from making a habit of modding other people's knives for profit. Even then, the wind blows in your direction. Matt Cucchiara has been "pimping" Sebenzas for people for years and I have not heard one complaint about him or his work. Even if you're reselling (Witness the Shelby Ford Mustangs) you wouldn't be taking credit for Chris Reeve's work or harming the brand in any way. Some companies are more sensitive about this than others, but STILL, you can do whatever you want to your own knife.

.

I also think that PiterM. had some sort of agreement with CRK about it. I believe he said that he would only make the one "Scout". Please correct me if I am wrong.

Yes, if I read correctly, PiterM did ask CR about the mod and only doing one for his use. I am thinking of modifying mine myself. Actually, it is just a thought for now. Got too many happenings for the holiday.

Basically this knife is co-op between me and Chris. There is much more involved than just my reginding. Enough to say it was in Idaho before I finally sheathed it ;) And yes, I agreed with Chris (or exacty Anne in fact) that I'd make just one and it'd be not for sale.

Of course whatever you do with your knife is your own game. Only please, don't call it "Scout" if you make something similar one day. And I can only ask for that of course, what you do in the end is up to you in fact. US is a free country, just like Poland :D

No, of course it won't be called a"scout". I doubt if it will be named. I just want to make my skinner smaller as it is too awkward for my use. I never thought about it until I saw your mod. The finish won't also be the same, plus the shape will not be the same.

I look forward to seeing what it will lok like when you are done!!! Do you have a plan for how you want it to be?

Thanks! I sure will post pics when done. I am in between mods right now as I am still recuperating from heart problems. . Still trying to figure out how much to take out and what kind of new finish. I will keep you posted.

I bet you could buy a knife and send it to a water jet cutting facility. It would probably cost you. hmmm.

I can't tell you more because I don't know personally of a water jet cutting place, I have heard them discussed.

I wish CRK would produce the "Scout". I, and many people here on the CRK forum are big fans of PiterM's modded knife!!

I'm all for it, TKC ! Meantime, guess we're on our own! Wonder how many others did it on the sly?;)
