I have a knife that has developed some minor pitting.. Though I have used semichrome and other rust preventatives the pits always come back to a dark color. Is there something that will take the color out of them without sanding or buffing?

Some steel (especially forged to finish shape) tends to have "freckles that show up as black spots.Try Flitz.It is usually caused by an impurity of slag or scale getting forged into the blade surface.(Note to new forgers - that is why you must keep the anvil and hammer wiped clean all the time.)
