Pivot Area Polishing?

Hey all,

I just recently got a ZT 0566 and promptly deassisted it. I'm loving it, and it's a great manual flipper, but I'd like to get it a little smoother so I can tighten up the pivot a bit more.

I was looking around the forum and found that people polish their phosphor bronze washers, but I couldn't find much about polishing the rest of the pivot contact points (i.e. blade tang, liner surfaces) and was wondering if anyone could tell me if this is something that would be beneficial and if so what would be the best way to go about it? I was thinking a dremel and some brasso, but again I'd love some suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

I would use some 2000 grit wet dry sandpaper very lightly and finish lightly on a loaded strop. You only want to polish, if you go too far you may end up with blade play from removing too much material in the pivot.

I polished the flats of one of my Brous Bionics, it made a HUGE difference. I used my sharpening stones and strop, it is very easy to just lay the blade flat on the stones and rub it gently to polish it. This method will also keep the surface true, which is pretty important for this application. For reference, here's how mine looked after most of the polishing.

I use JB bore paste

Slather it on...Lightly assemble.
Work action as much as you want.

dissasemble clean reassemble and lube.

Thanks for the input guys. I took my 0566 apart and hit the flats lightly with brasso on a dremel polishing wheel and already I can tell a difference. When I get time I may try to work it up to a near-mirror finish to see if it'll get any better. I feel like it will since the factory stonewashing is in the pivot area as well, so those scratches should come out nicely.

Hmmm that JB bore paste looks like some pretty good stuff. I might just have to try that. Thanks!
