pivot/blade wiggle

Today I noticed my small sebenza blade had wiggle.

I pulled out the supplied tool and tightened pivot, blade is now solid again.

I guess my question is, is it normal for pivot to loosen over time?

Or was screw too loose?

How loose was the screw?

My guess is that was the problem. Although even when the pivot screw is loose you barely get side to side wiggle due to the tolerances. I have never had a screw loosen one me as long as a tightened properly as the screw bites into the Ti.

My suggestion is to make sure when you lube your knife that thread of the screw or the pivot tube doesn't have any lube on it. Which can easily happen with over lubing.

It was barely loose, no where near falling off.

when I inserted tool and rotated there was some room.

I usually tighten well, and not generous with lube since they sent near empty tube.

thanks for reply!

A small amount of loctite on ALL your screws is always a good idea. You'll never have to worry about anything coming loose. Blue or purple is what you want. Not the red.

I would have to disagree. One reason I CR products because with the exception of the the Zaan, they don't require any loct tite. Ease of maintence and simplicity is ideal.

None of my sebenza's have ever required loc tite, on any screw. Just saying.

CRK advises against the use of loctite. What happened to your knife is not a common problem and Im sure it won't happen again in the future as long as theres enough tension on the screws.

Im going to keep one of the crk tools in my car now.

just in case.

im just relieved that the blade play is resolved.

I would re tighten all the screws. On my micarta 21 I had the frame screw closest to the pivot come loose a couple times. Sometimes you just have to snug them down a bit.

Yeah I went through all my crk's and made sure all of them were tightened.

it was just my small that had the loose pivot. Its my edc.

Why not red?

Edit: never mind! I thought I had red but just the bottle is red. Mine is blue.

I must have overlooked the fact you have a small 21. On my 25, I use loctite mainly for the pivot screw. Because once I find that perfect "sweet spot", I want it to stay there. And I don't use hardly any at all. Where people go wrong is putting gobs of it on there, and then torquing the snot of it. Then, yeah, you'll have problems. I had a screw come loose and fell out while I was walking and opening and closing it, kinda breaking it in. The screw hit the floor, and I thought "what was that?".. I looked at my knife and saw a screw missing, and luckily I found it. So from then on, I loctited all of them, just for security and peace of mind.
The difference between red and blue is red is permanent, while blue (or purple) is temporary.
I will also say I have been using blue loctite for years, on lots of things, and have never had any issues. But these are just my experiences.

I have never used loctite so im not worried about that.

also it almost always in its leather pouch, so hopefully if it ever falls out it stays put in the leather.

I've never had any issue with the screws coming loose at all. I don't use Lock Tite. That's one of the reasons I like the sebenza, very minimal.

I'd suggest you degrease the pivot screw bits before reassembly to make sure you get a good, dry connection when tightening
