I got a new large 21 from ES today. The knife was made in 7/12. The blade was stiff so I took it apart to lube it.

I've tried to put the blade back in the knife many times. The pivot bushing moves to the side with the small washer Every

time I try to put the knife back together. The small washer isn't against the inside of the scale, the pivot is moving just enough

to keep the washer out of place. The pivot bushing is moving the thickness of the small washer.

I'm holding the lockbar out so it's not in the way. I called CRK, they couldn't tell me what I'm doing wrong.

I've had the same problem before, I got lucky and the pivot didn't move for some reason and the blade went in the

knife correctly.

I'm using CRK grease to keep the washers on the blade.

A little help .....very frustrated!

Im a little bit confused with your explanation, pictures may help.
But here is my guess to help you.

The reason your blade is tight is the washers are a little bit thick. Stop them a little bit and then try it. Also, leave the the body screws just barely tight. Or tighten them and break them free, then put the blade in. Use enough grease so that the washers stay stuck, then go for it.
Also pinch the washers and bushing together gently as you insert, that may help you as well.

I had a similar problem with a small 21 I got from ES. Quick question, are you putting the knife back together exactly like CRK says? (Handles together then slide the blade into place then pivot screw?). That's what fixed mine....

Craig,

I may not be understanding this correctly ... but if I am ... you are saying that the pivot bushing isn't remaining perfectly flush with the blade and washers when you are inserting it. If this is the case, try to hold the knife with the scales perpendicular to the floor, rather than in a horizontal position. That way, there is less of a chance of the pivot bushing sliding one way or the other.

Dennis, I tried your idea of holding the knife perpendicular instead of horizontal and it Worked. It was a little harder to do but....

I finally got the knife back together.

Thanks Dennis!!!

That is the way I have always done it too. :)

Have you put some grease inside the pivot hole in the blade? There are some subtle grooves in there and i usually apply some grease there in addition to the washers. The viscosity of the grease should be enough to hold the bushing in place.
