Some top quality makers like Chris Reeves and Scott Cook use pivot bushings which allow the knife to be tightened firmly without altering blade smoothness. On the other hand you are stuck with the ease of opening the maker made the knife with.
Other top quality makers - for instance Mick Strider, RJ Martin, do not use pivot bushings. They use loctite to keep the blade at a certain tightness.
I would be interested to hear forum members thoughts on the pros and cons of these two methods and their experience in knives they own.
