Pivot Hole Grease Grooves

Just a little info for anyone new to CRK, or those who have not done a take-down on their knife. One of the design features of the CRK pivot hole is that it has small depressions milled into the side of the hole. These serve the same function as the holes in the washers:

1 - They hold additional lube:
2 - They give any grit or contamination that works it's way into the pivot somewhere to go until the knife is next serviced.

Here's a pic of the pivot hole in my Large Micarta 21, that shows the grooves. They are also present on the small, 25, and Umnum. I don't know about the Mnandi (I don't got one) or the older CRKs (I have no idea if this has been a long-standing feature, or a new one). Maybe one of our CRK historians can comment. When you buy a CRK, this is the sort of design detail you are paying for (and you can't event see it!!!)

Note the grease groove at about 1:00 o'clock in this photo:

I noticed this when I broke down my 21 lrg C 2012. Very nice detail.
Great pic by the way, I cant use the camera within 8 inches, just wont work. Time to upgrade.

Now that is attention to detail! What is your earliest knife with this feature? I don't see it on my regulars

Looks like a sound design.
Yes, when did this start being a feature.
I have a Small Insingo only a few months old and it doesn't have them.

My 2008 umnumzaan has them. I think the Umnum also introduced the perforated washers, so maybe those two features arrived hand-in-hand on the Umnum and then migrated to the 21. Do any 21s have solid washers?

That's strange, my small 21 is about a year old and it has them, but it has the standard blade. My large Insingo has them as well.

Cody, thanks for this.

Glad to help....hope all is well with your 25.

Here is the pivot of my small 21 (born January 2013) with 4 grease grooves. So as of early 2013 they were still a feature of the small. They are not that deep and can be difficult to see.

This is a BG-42 Regular from 2000, what's that we see hiding in the pivot area there ?......I'm starting to see a theme of over analysation here. :p

Still getting tortured waiting for my new Sebby 25 to arrive, but didn't know this, so thanks! I can't wait to get it, even more when I keep seeing these cool little extra design features. Great up close pic too.

Probably also a surface area reduction, thus reducing drag.

Thanks Haze! Good to be back. Been alot of new names in the house of Reeve since I was here last

It has been awhile. Just needed a break I guess.

Aye, a few have gone, some have stayed and there are indeed lots of new names, that is always good.

Perhaps you know this but I just learned... I had the same problem, I couldn't get my PnS camera to focus on things within a few inches of the camera, that's what macro mode is for (the little flower icon). My aunt (a professional photographer) laughed when she told me that, now I can take close up's no problem.

Well, my powers of observation leave much to be desired.
Opened mine up today, pow! they are there. Never noticed before.

Good taste. Glad I don't have to break down my 2000 BG-42 Large for curiosity.

That is great camera work guys.
They revealed what my 70 + year old eyes could not see.

What else have I missed on this wonderful knife?:D
