Pivot Issue After Sharpening

Hey,

I just finished convexing a Vic Electrician+ and now the two blades that I was working on don't snap open or close like they used to. I don't think I bent anything, and think I've cleaned everything up and lubed everything. I worked the pivot (both blades use the same pivot pin) and the main blade got a little bit better but has a slight grinding feel/sound to it. The small blade is extremely stiff and doesn't snap at all.

The back spring still functions. Not sure what to do, now.

Clean them out with WD 40. You got sharpening grit in the pivot area. It may never come out.

You can try hot soapy water too.Pour dawn right in the pivot and work it under the hot water. It wont hurt anything.

Some of the grit from sharpening got inside your pivot, try put it in some warm soapy water and keep opening and closing it. But I use a air compressor to clean grit out of my pivots, I find it works better.

I soaked it in warm dawn-water and worked the blades open/close. Then I sprayed it real well with WD40 and blasted the hell out of it with a air compressor, worked the bladed a bunch of times, etc.

Most of the grit is gone and the two blades in question snap open/close almost perfectly. I still need to work on it, but I think the air compressor did the trick.

Thanks.
