Pivot Screw Almost Fell Out

I got a new sebenza a few days ago, and today the pivot screw almost fell out. It would have had I not noticed it sticking out about a 1/4 inch. I tightened it down. I haven't done anything to knife yet, I've carried it once and all I've done is open and close it to break it in. Has this ever happened to anyone else, should I be worried?

Yes my sebenza screws used to come loose all the time! The hex slot in them are deformed from having to constantly tighten! When I send it to the spa to get refinished I'm gonna have the stonewashed hardware put in. Anyway try taking the knife apart and degreasing the screws with dish soap and hot water, as this solved my problem!

No need for lube or locktite.

Deformed screw heads are from the wrong tool for the job.

Keep your screws clean and you should have no worries.

I have never had a Sebenza's screw back out on me. I do not think that I would be too worried about it. I would just keep an eye on it for a while. If it keeps backing out then I would look at other options.

If you feel like you must take action on the screw. Then I would take the advice of some others and take the knife apart and give it all a good cleaning.

Hope it helps.

never happened to me....the sebenza is wonderful because you tighten all the way down and the action is smooth due to the bushing system.

I have never had a screw on any Seb back out on me. The screws on all my
Sebs seem like they almost snap into place when they are tightened up.

From my experience the screws are coming out because you have some lube leaked into the slots, so the screwheads will work its way out.

As someone suggested, clean it properly and do not overuse your lubricant and it will stay in.

The screws won't backup because of lube on the outside, they'll backup because of lube on the inside (of the threads). You need to clean not only the screws but also the threaded couplings they mate with (I forget what you call them), you know what I mean. Soap & water's your friend here. Dry, use a q-tip inside the threaded rivet (or whatever it's called). Firmly hand tight and they (especially the pivot) shouldn't backup again.

Yes and no. Dry your screws off and try to keep the oil out of them and it's a non-issue. When tightening said screws, if deftness of touch isn't a trait you possess, only tighten while pinching the short end of the wrench, rather than the conventional long side. There's no reason to over-tighten screws on your sebenza, because the screws aren't bearing any stress.

not true if the only tool used is the wrench included

User error then.

I don't think so pal ! This happens slowly after several months of the screws constantly needing to be retightened. If there's one thing I know how to do properly it's using tools!!

Hey Guys,

Don't jump on the OP for using wrong tools or too much lube. He said it was a brand new knife!

A few weeks ago I received a brand bew Umnumzaan from a dealer and which I was the first person to unwrap from the taped white paper wrapping. I carried it for 2 days and then noticed the screw at the back of the handle which holds the standoff was halfway backed out. Fortunately my knife came with the takedown kit and I just used one of the allen wrenches to retighten it. No problems since and the knife is great.

But these things happen, even from CRK. They are assembled by humans you know...

I've never heard of that issue before. Next time you take down your knife, make sure you thoroughly clean both the screw threads and the inside of the pins (lighter fluid like Ronsonol works well). When you reassemble your Seb, screw everything down tight but don't muscle it. No matter what, do not use Loctite anywhere, ever. If you're still having the same problem, call CRK and they will take care of it.
