Howdy folks. We've got a 690 Elishewitz in the house that has lost it's pivot screw (the threaded screw, not the D-shaped cup). Benchmade has no more in the factory and claims that the pitch/dimensions of the screw are proprietary information and won't tell us... So I'm hoping that someone with one in her/his collection might be able to measure the screw so we can secure the pivot and return the knife to service. I know we're likely not going to find something with the design, it would just be nice to get the pivot secure so the knife can actually be used.

Thanks!

Benchmade’s reply makes no sense. Why claim confidential that which they no longer care to make. I’d make some complaints at a higher level than customer service and ask for this to be moved to GBU. Elishewitz might help. He’s a nice guy.

I was just going to say basically the same thing - what is proprietary about an item you no longer make, or stock? I mean, I understand the concept; but it doesn't make sense applied in this situation. (Maybe they just didn't want to deal with digging up the details)
Benchmade Benchmade can you help this member, or offer a logical explanation for the refusal?

I've got a 690...I don't particular relish the idea of disassembling since it's NIB; but if an answer doesn't come, I will probably consider it.

Thank you! I agree... We just want to be able to go to the specialty fastener store and get something that will keep the pivot together.

Not sure why the screw threads would be considered proprietary. They are a 4-48 thread. Hope that helps.

Yeah, I don't think we're done reaching out to BM yet. I'm hoping they'll pipe up in the thread. I emailed Elishewitz and got a response this morning, he suggested a 6-32 screw.

Edit - see below

The Foray is based on this design. Maybe one of those pivot screws/sets would work?

Good idea, we can try that. Thanks!

Thank you so much!!! Here we go!

I really hope you get that 690 back up and running, she is too pretty not to.

Good luck.
