Pivot tightness

Hi, I have had a Benchmade Griptillian for a while now. It has just a little blade play. My question is with a little play I can pull back the axis lock and flip it open with my wrist, with no play I can still open it normal (with the thumb studs) but not flick it. So is there a way to get no play and still be able to flick it open with my wrist? Will it loosen up and flick easier after its been tight for a while? Thanks.

The best way I have found is to use a good threadlocker, get the pivot a little tighter than you like it to be, and use the knife often, eventually the washers will wear/burnish in to a slick no-play fit. The only problem is that this usually takes at least a few months to occur with regular use.

I think you just have to find the "sweet spot"-- where the blade hangs tight when open but just a nudge closes it. I wrap a half dozen turns of 1/4" teflon tape around my pivots to hold them in where I want them.

I have 3 full-size grips (2x551 and a 550) in use and always use the thumbstuds (or hole) to open. Just for the heck of it tho I just pulled out all 3 to see if they opened easily your way-- they do. And there is no blade play on any of them.

Thank you for your comments! I was looking on another thread and realized that the turns that I thought were small enough were not as small as I thought. I never realized that benchmades tolerances were so small that It took so little it doesn't feel like you moved it at all lol

I use teflon tape instead of threadlocker on all my adjustable pivots.

It takes about five wraps or so to keep the screw in place, but if you use the right amount, you can adjust it perfectly, and re-adjust at any time.

It's much more user friendly, IMHO.

You can try getting it to that point that you have no blade play then apply a small amount of lube to the pivot.
