Pivot Washers??

What size are the pivot washers in an Emerson Commander, and where can I get some?

I recently purchased a "new" as in unused 2005 Commander on Ebay for a good price. When I got it the lockup was extremely sticky, the blade was not centered, and there was way too much blade wiggle for safety. When I tightened the pivot pin to remove the wiggle the blade became so off-center that it hit the liner, the lock became stickier, and the blade could hardly be opened.

This is so unlike my other Emerson, a CQC 8, which was perfect out of the box. So I disassembled it to see if I could discover what the problem was. And I believe I found it. One of the pivot washers was apparently deformed by the pivot screw during factory assembly, or previous owner assembly. The washer was not lined up with the washer's hole when it was forced into it, causing a deformation and protrusion.

Hopefully a new washer will fix it. But I'm having trouble finding out what size washers I need. And I'm wondering if it has the correct washers because the knife's liners are two different thicknesses but the washers both appear to be the same size.

Suggestions?

Order some from EKI and you won't have to worry about it ever again or send the knife in for a spa treatment. And "unused" from 2005 is kind of hard to believe but maybe. Always be wary of eBay purchases. It would take a lot of force from our factory to deform a pivot washer during assembly. The washers are nylatron and are .250 inside diameter and .30 thick nylatron. Not sure on the Commander off hand but if there are 2 different sizes make sure you put the smaller one where you found it. (I believe the smaller washer is on the non locking side) If not you could block the detent that keeps the blade closed.

I've been to the website and don't see any washers offered for sale. I see screws, pivot pins, pocket clips and such. but no washers.

This knife is in excellent condition. No wear at all. And it came in an authentic box with the warranty card just like my CQC8.

I wonder about those washers. I'm sure they are both the same size and shouldn't be. The smaller should go on the non-locking side as that liner is thinner than the locking liner.

Give us a call on Monday and we can send some out to you. They're not on the website.

EmersonREP I have a suggestion:

A full "home made DIY refurbishing kit", with everything you need to almost restore a knife:

Pivot screws, washers, handle screws, and maybe the clip screws too, at a discounted price for buying all together ;)

That way you can have a field-repair kit just in case, in a SHTF scenario or where you dont have time-access to send the knife by mail.

Regards!

I called on Monday and talked to a nice fellow who from his manner seemed to be expecting my call.

Yesterday I received two pivot washers in the mail along with a catalog. Both washers were the same size. I installed them and they curred the excessive play in the axis, which was my main concern since I don't grow new fingers very quickly. The blade is not quite centered with the proper tension causing the end of one side to rub a liner a little bit. No big issue there. The lock is still a little sticky, but nothing a little graphite from a pencil didn't cure.

Thanks for the assistance EmersonREP!!

Maybe there's too much lockbar pressure? Check the detent pressure on the non-locking scale too.

Those tasks are beyond my expertise. And I'm afraid to start messing with them. If use should create more issues, I'll send it in to Emerson. I'm a fine parts-changer. But when it comes to adjusting what is essentially spring pressure, I'll probably screw it up.

Thanks though.
