This was a thread suggested by Idahog Skunk. Anybody got pics or stories of their folders failing them? I don't think we need to get nasty about any certain brand but maybe this will get Jerry an idea of why we NEED the folder so badly.

ok, wheres my camera!!

hey, even post your current folder user, even if it's not broke.
might as well see them before you throw them away:D

Current heavier duty folder is either spyderco endura or benchmade CQC7. I'm still working on pics, but can't get my web hosting to work.

I'd love a nice large folder to replace those. As for my small EDC folder i carry a SAK and i don't see that getting replaced anytime soon, unless jerry makes a small folding can opener to go with his folder. (maybe small can opener in one of the slabs like a special edition :D )

I've sort of kind of worn a few out and have affected the lock-up a good bit but generally I just try to do the really tough stuff with full tang fixed blades, preferrably Busses. This has worked for me fairly well except that I sometimes do not have a fixed blade on my person and the folder is always handy.

I can tell you first hand that several liner lockers do not seem to lock-up as well after the have been stressed a bit. This has even applied to "name brand" models.

I've been carrying an Emerson CQC7 tanto, and while the lock has not failed, I used it to gently pry open my buddy's locked Leatherman wave pliers the other day and put a nick in the edge... and I was being very gentle!
I like the wave design on Emersons but I wish I'd had a Busse Groove Master or AD to use instead. (Hmm, I guess I should order one...)
I'm really looking forward to an INFI folder.

Hi over there!
I have been using spyderco folders for more than 15 Years. Especially those with steel handles do very well. The only one that failed is with FRN handle, the spring is breaking out of its place.
A Number of linerlocks I did put aside, they don't seem really secure.
On search for a perfect folder I ended up with two CRK sebenzas, one of them is my edu. For every cutting, prying or hacking Job that needs more than that, I use fixblades, mostly the Busse's. Try to have one near me all the time.
Generally spoken, IMHO all Folders with FRN handles seem too weak for heavy use.
What am I looking for: A folder lined with solid steel, with nice looking nukarta slabs, and a lock that the world hasn't seen before, and at leat 5" blade...

The reason for buying my first busse is because my folder all 210.00 worth let go costing me 700.00 for stitches. right next to a tendon, it bled and bled and bled, running down my arm in a steam I couldn't stop I was done with folders for a while, bought a mistress a couple days later.

hurts just to think about it:eek: my biggest problem is keeping an edge through the day. i open one bag of cement and it won't cut crap later. or if i strip a couple of wires or scrap anything it's toast. i sharpen every night and morning just to keep it servicable.

need infi:p
