Why do some knives loosen on the pivot and require the pivot screw to be loc-tited, while other knives operate fine without this?

I think it might have to do with the pivot design. It has been my experience that the Sebenza doesn't require loctite, while the Commander does. Now I am not saying anything about the quality of either peice, just that one needed loctite, and the other didn't.

The Sebeanze pivot uses a bushing, and is desinged to be tightened all the way down. Thus the pressure from the pivot screw is on this bushing, and the blade swings around the busing, NOT the pivot screw. The Commander doesn't use a bushing, the blade swings on the pivot screw. Thus everytime you open or close the blade some turning force is exerted on the pivot screw. Over time it can work loose from these forces, thus requiring loctite.

Just a crazy theory from a crazy knife knut.;) :D

I noticed this on customs. Some custom folders never needed it, while others were a definite.

I loc-tite all the pivots at the desired tension as well as the clip screws on all the folders.

It depenmds on the thread size of the pivot, the quality, design, etc. Whether it uses a rubber washer on the pivot head, etc. etc. etc.
