Pix from Major Mike.

Easy to pack all-rounder, fast fighter, and a chop-anything brute of a workhorse. 'Bout covers everything. :)

When mine's on my gear the scabbard gets wrapped with olive drab duct tape. Helps keep the scabbard from getting scratched up, and it doesn't draw as much attention. Pappy and others advocate using heat and a pair of pliers to gently work the chape off the end of the scabbard. I've left mine on, but guess it wouldn't take too many jabs in the thigh or ribs to convince me to take it off.

Sarge

Sarge,

I’ve had problems with rusting when duct taping carbon steel (Ruana) knives before. I’ll duct tape and MNU before actually going down range, then periodically take off the tape and check for rust.

Long term is make either kydex or leather sheaths. I have some kydex and was starting to work on it Sunday. Left the garage door open when I had to go inside for a while. When I came out my shears were missing. The kydex (and my leather for that matter) sheaths won’t be that pretty. The place out in town doesn’t have an oven, and using my grill probably isn’t a good idea, so I have to use my heat gun. I brought some oak tanned leather from CONUS but the box was soaked by the movers and the leather was rotted with a fungus (along with my shipped uniforms $$$$).

You can see that neither the pack or butt pack are completely full. They will be finished depending upon when/where. I probably won’t need the Wiggy’s bag and pad so they can come off depending. I normally like to but the big blade on the back of the pack between the external pockets. The 20” AK is just tool long, the point of the sheath pokes into butt pack while the handle sticks up too high. I believe a new sheath will fix and allow me to re-position things thus putting two more canteens back on the side. Things would be better if I still had a large ALICE but…

Overall a layered effect. A “small” BAS for the riggers belt, 18” GS for the deuce gear and the 20” AK for chopping on the pack. If I was to take just one down range to cover everything it would be a choice between the GS or an 18” WWII.

Thanks for input. We may be getting some reviews and possible pix from Marines in the field. I hope.

Justright,

Standard issue M84. I have a drop leg attachment for it and a dedicated drop leg but wouldn't normally use them.

Besides we have an excess TE of M4 shotguns, even after turning in our 870s so someone else can use them. The M4s should be adequate to our tasks in this type of unit.
