Hi all. I'm looking to git me a 2" to 3" fixed blade for EDC while not at work. At work (land surveyor here) I've been carrying a BM Snody Activator Plus. I'm willing to spend in the area of $100 to $250. I've seen all the measurements, busted out my tape measure, compared to other knives, etc. It just allways help seeing pix of the knives with other known objects. Hands, coins, guns, you get the "picture". :) Thank you all so much. Opinions and advice are also allways welcome. ( I know Bravo-1, but for now I'm looking for smaller. Bravo-1 will be my next work/ field knife. ) Thanks, M

Hey Woodley,
The Activator Plus is larger than the mini-Skinner and MUCH larger than the PSK. I find the mini-Skinner to be just perfect for a small knife. In fact, I own 2 of them and will probably own a third before the end of another year. It's a stout little blade that, looking down the spine, is ground to a super fine point. While the handle is relatively short, the scales are nice and thick. In a very short time, it fit my hand just right. I hang a lanyard with a hangman's noose knot on all my knives. On the mini-Skinner, if needed, I can slide my hand back just a tad and grip the lanyard between palm and little finger, and it provides a little more handle. This is rarely necessary....in fact, never yet necessary. Another thing I like about the mini-Skinner is that, for me anyway, short Barkie blades sharpen up to a super-razor sharp edge....easier than longer blades.

Sorry... I don;t have any pics "in hand", but here are a couple anyway.

As with any BRKT, the sheath will leave you wanting. The one in the photo is homemade.

Thanks Stretch. I'm starting to think now that the PSK may be to small "for my needs." I really like my Snody Activator + as my work knife, just looking for something a "little" bit smaller for off work. After a good bit of surfing last night I think I'm stuck between the Mini-Skinner or Mini-Northstar. Alot of $ for me to be puttin' on a blade. I know i would'nt be disappointed in either, just wanna make sure ..... Well you all know the feeling. :) thanks again, M

I can say that I ordered a Northstar a couple of months ago - bamboo scales. It's my first "pointy" BRKT knife, all the others have been "skinner" style (Highland, mini-Skinner, Bravo-1 [not really a skinner but with a more protracted belly than the Northstar], and mini-Canadian). My next Bark River will be a mini-Northstar - either carbon fiber or maroon linen. Still, another mini-Skinner is in the not-to-distant future for me.
