I just ordered a biltong kukri and was wondering if anyone here owned one, and used it as a camp knife, not a chopper. just a knife?

whats your opinion of it?
did it perform well?

also wanted to know if Himalayan imports sells kardas & chakmaks seperate for the knives since the biltong doesnt come with it, and also a sheath to sore it in.

I took it hiking (just for fun), its not needed even for camping as a small 3" knife does everything.

it is a great chopper, but too large to be a knife.

The bilton is a fine light belt knife. It's pretty tiny as far as khuks go, but it's very useful. I've got several of them and gave them out as groomsmen gifts at my wedding:)

As for chakmas and kardas, I'd send Yangdu an email. I think she sometimes has a box of misc little knives that are out of spec or fell out of the sheath in transit. She might be able to sell you one at a good price.

Enjoy your bilton...be prepared to buy more khuks;) I see a 15" AK in your future;)

I've carried a 12" AK, 15" Sirupati, 15" AK, 16.5" WWII and a few other H.I. Khukri's in and around camp. The smaller Khukri's like the 12" AK and 15" Sirupati make great Bowie/Camp knife replacements. Just pair one with your favorite 2.5" to 3.5" knife and you have most of your bases covered.

The Bilton is not one that I have experience with. But if it handles any where near as nice as my 12" AK, It's going to be good in and around camp. My 12" AK chops as good as most of the 7" Camp bowies that you see on Bladeforums. Am willing to bet that a Bilton with practice will work as well as a 5" camp knife.

Welcome and Congrats! :)

Congrats Uluapark and welcome! I dont have a bilton either but I do carry a Kagas Katne which is a small "paper cutter" suitable for making mincemeat out of the bills:D I love the small HI knives ("cute" as Aunti calls them:thumbup:) and would love to see some pics of yours when you get it. Might get me one too. They are made for cutting up Bilton jerkey so I would think they can handle most any task you could throw at them short of heavy chopping or batoning. Another idea is if you end up getting a chopper or something larger later is they do come with a Karda which is a very useful knife for cutting string etc. and smaller miscellaneous tasks. I cant tell you how many times I ordered steak at a restaurant and got a butter knife to cut it so out comes my Kagas Katne!
