Hopefully I'm posting this in the right section, anyhow, here goes...
I'm looking for a place to purchase some pre-dyed veggie tanned leather, preferably in black. Not looking to buy a whole hide, more like a 1/4 to 1/2 hide. I've been messing around making sheaths for the past couple of years (more unfinished than finished ones sitting around, lol) and want to get a good sized piece of pre-dyed leather to make a sheath/scabbard for my Swamp Rat Waki sword that's on order. So far, I've just been buying large sized scraps of regular veggie tanned leather off of ebay, mainly in 4-9 square foot sizes. This is kind of a crap shoot as you don't know the exact quality you will be getting and/or you have to wait around for the right size and shape to pop up. On the plus side, it has been inexpensive. Here's a pic that I found of a sheath that I made for a custom shop ASH1 recurve. No longer have the knife/sheath, but this was probably the best quality sheath I have made to date. Not real pretty to look at, but it was really solid.
