Places to buy Knife steel in Chattanooga?

I live in Chattanooga and I am searching for places where I can buy either 1095 or O1. I had a scrap piece of 1095 from a knife build I did a few years ago but can't remember where I got it (not locally I know that - probably online). Any way, I just purchased a piece of O1 online but I really would rather find a place here in town that I can get it. I have checked The Steel Store (which is a joke by the way), and Southern Tool. Neither carry what I am looking for.

Any other local knife makers have any ideas?

Thanks.

I looked on line and it looks like thesteelstore.com in Chattanoga carries carbon steel. Give them a call.

Hey Jim. Yeah I actually went there the other day and all they have is mild steel. It is just a yard where everything is laid out on pallets. Whatever is says online is wrong. And they are not very cordial either. Still I would have thought being a "Steel" store they would carry pretty much anything. Not so. Very misleading per there name. Was trying to find other knife makers in the area to see where they get their stock. But thank you for the reply.

Im about 2 hr south of Chattanooga and I get my O1 from pops in Atlanta. The shipping is quick and Costs less because it is close.

Can you give me a contact number and maybe pricing on what you have ordered from them.

Fastenal - will not be in stock , but you can browse the catalogue online and tell the monkeys the order number

I never expect to find knife-specific materials locally. Thank goodness for teh Interwebz!

As an update, after I finished up a job this morning I had some time before I mossied on home and decided to stop in at Southern Tool in Hixson just to see what they would tell me (even though in an email they told me they didn't have what I wanted). Well met a nice lady by the name of Judy who was very helpful. They do have some O1 in 1/8" but I was needing 2" wide and all they have on hand is 1 1/2". I said thank you and then she said but we can order you some if you would like. I asked the price and got her email address. Came home and did some "Interwebz" pricing and actually I can get it cheaper from a place I found online, even after paying the shipping cost. With Southern a piece of O1 - 1"8" x 2" x 36" would cost $57. A place I found online will charge me $48.13, and that is with shipping.

So suffice it to say I was a little disappointed that even though I found what I am looking for locally, it is still cheaper to get it online.

Oh, almost forgot, the place online will ship the steel for free if I my order is over $100. So looks like I will be getting my stuff from the 'Interwebz".

Thanks guys for your input.
