Places to find good scrap steel

Does anyone have any idea of where to find scrap steel usable for a knife blade? I ignorantly threw out my old files like a dingus not knowing they could be salvaged for knife making. Which was ironically the activity that got them dull in the first place. But any and all help is appreciated.
 
Used to see lots of stuff at flea markets. Then I started getting interested in making knives and never see anything good anymore.... :-)
 
Regarding old / used leaf springs, they tend to be full of stress fractures and cracks, you're certainly better off buying a known steel (1084) as its quite affordable
