I have a partially serrated 551 griptilian. I'm thinking about getting a plain edged 551 in the future. Is it worth it for me to get the PE or should i just stick with the PS. I don't have many knives with PS so i don't really know how i feel about them. What are your guys views on them? I have a sharpmaker if that makes any difference to you guys as far as ease of sharpening, i can sharpen it.

I always prefer a plain edge. Unless you have a job where you cut rope or other things where a serrated edge gives you an advantage, I'll take a PE blade. The fact that serrations are harder to sharpen make my blade choices easier. If the combo edge works for you and you can sharpen it, up to you if you want another one.

Serrations have their place, just not in 99% of MY EDC tasks.

I would go for the PE. You can get a SE Ladybug if you really need serrations, which is what I carry sometimes to compliment my PE knife.

If you decide that you don't want the partially serrated blade, you should try to contact BM and see if they'll swap the blade for you to a plain edge version. It should cost only $25 plus shipping. It would be a cheaper alternative to buying a brand new model just to get a PE version.

I have a PS 551 and I have to say, when ever I tried to cut something, I was annoyed with the serrations. I never found them too useful and they seemed to get in the way more than anything.

when i was younger (13, 8 years ago) i had a PS ascent i believe the model was. I carried that thing everywhere and used it for everything. That was 154cm. I beat that knife and it's still around. Now that i'm older (do the math... im getting old) i bought this grippy with my own money and i guess i've just grown up to more so appreciate what i have and not try and ruin it lol i guess thats why im afraid to use my newer knives.

Are you guys going to arrest me because i have a PS? lol. I actually just remembered reading this thread about the ascent. i think it's an ascent?

There's nothing wrong with CE blades, there's just no benefit for 99.9% of my uses. For every one time I need a CE, it will get in the way 10 times.

Just so i'm not taking up another stupid thread. I just picked up my grippy and started playing with the blade and some paper and noticed it didn't cut how i wanted it to. Ive never really sharpened 154cm and consider myself pretty good at sharpening. Man was it hard! a tiny bur took me a few minutes to get out with my sharpmaker. but now both sides perform well and shave! If this is how 154cm is going to be down the road i might hate sharpening it... Oh, and just to add. I was so impressed with the edge... i barely have hair left on my arm lol. I hope it holds its edge long because i love how scary sharp it is right now.
