Plain edge, one-hand SAK ...

My EDC for the last decade or so has been a Victorinox Outrider. Lately I've been thinking about switching to a one-hand option, but all I can find are the the serrated versions (which is basically a combo edge). My problem with those blades is that the combo edge seems backwards to me. Maybe someone can comment on that.

Anyway, is it possible to track down a plain edge one-hand SAK, or am I stuck?

Thanks all.

PS. Best case scenario in my mind: Parachutist (one-hand) with a plain edge.

As far as I am aware all of the one handed Vic SAK's have a serated main blade. I don't know why this is, because all the non-one handed (locking) versions of these SAK's appear to come with straight main blades - perhaps someone else can shed light on why this is?

I have seen some people here convert these OH SAK blades to straight blades - I don't know about you but I am not skillfull enough to do that and it would probably invalidate their excellent life warantee.

Someone from the Bundeswehr procurement office could probably comment more knowledgably (I think the pattern was originally for the German military), but the serrations seem to make sense (IMHO):

You have very little leverage at the tip, which is where the extra cutting power of the serrations would be of great use.

You often need to reach the thinnest part of the blade into a tight spot to cut lines and straps.

When you cut fuzz sticks, whittle, etc. you want a plain edge with the control near your fingers.

Okay, I understand that rationale then. A lot of the time I have to do fine, delicate cuts w/ my SAK. For my uses, I'd much rather have a plain tip on the blade and the serrations further down. I don't make many tinder sticks these days, but I can see how the current design would help with that.

I like to whittle and cut notches in small branches using the portion of the blade closest to the hinge. It affords the best control and leverage. The Victorinox combination blade lets me do that because its straight portion is closest to the hinge and the serrations are located closer to the tip.

is there one handed SAK that have a pocketclip? Thanks. I used to always a SAK when I was growing up, but after going over to Spyderco/CS and multi-tool(my favorite is Leatherman SideClip/Micra), I stopped carrying one.

I've seen somewhere someone converted their OH to clipped OH, by adding the clip on the scale (removing the scale first). Can't seem to find the link though.

Just get one and convert it into full plain edge...I've done that, not so difficult, though you need to be patient.
I've done it, too, but if you don't have a fast-cutting coarse stone, it'll take a while.

Better idea: just use it, and when it gets dull, sharpen it as if it wasn't serrated. After several normal sharpenings, the serrations will be gone!

I use a big coarse file to start with, upon getting off the teeth and the hollowed part smooth, I then switched to stone.

Berzerker, Thanks! Yes, it's that one. And I have forgotten, it was Lavan, the same person did the serration removal, and even further, converting it into 'Swissica' (see article on SOSAKONLINE)
