Plain edge or Combo

I'm going to order a chinook II this week but can't decide whether i was serrations or plain edge. Any help is appreciated:)

For me it would depend on whether I intended the Chinook for utility or as a strictly SD knife. For utility I think the chinook has a long enough blade to have useful amounts of both serrations and plain edge so I would go with the combo but if I was buying it as a weapon I would go with the plain edge, as I feel it would be less likely to snag or catch on heavy clothing.either way, nice knifeA

Plain.
Looks better, is just as useful.
If you want serrations, go all the way -- that's one reason I love Spyderco: wicked-sharp spyderedge from tip to ricasso!!! :D

Peace.

Plain. More functional. Easier to sell later if you so decide.

I don't like the chinook in combo edge, the serrations end right where I like to start slicing. I think you'll probably like a plain edge better.

Well, I buy nothing but fully serrated Spydies, but the Chinook/CE is the only knife I'll buy with the Combo edge.

Well this is one time I feel like I am justified in "rocking the boat" so to speak. I personally like combo edges. It only takes the 1 to 1.5 inches of serration to make a very handy rope cutter. Now there may be some creedence in the fact that you can re-sell the knife later if it is a plain edge. But please do consider this. I used to not like combo or serrated edges at all until I started carrying my big Dyad as most of you know has a fully serrated blade and one PE blade. I started using that SE blade at work more and more and discovered the usefullness of it.

I am personally not objectional to the looks of the combo edge or serrated. I guess you just have to use one to actually fully appreciate it's utility uses. Why would any of you all pass up on the "tool like" functions of a combo edge? :)

...mostly because part-serrated edges don't have the full "usefulness" of either type, plain or fully serrated.

Peace.

No doubt a PE is easier to maintain, and sell. And, a combo edge in a blade that's too short probably is the worst of both worlds - but on a 4" (+-) blade, you do end up with enough serrations to slice a rope, yet enough plain edge to do most other things, too. I have a CE Endura that gets used quite a bit while camping, and it's nice to have both types of edges available in one package...

I'm not worried about re-selling cause i don't get rid of knives:) . I think i'll go with combo then unless anyone can really disuade me

Well, this example may help you.

The new(ish) Victorinox one-handed trekkers are part-serrated... And they have the serrations toward the tip of the blade, not back near the handle. It seems weird, but do a search on the forums... You'll find a lot of folks have used em, and that they actually make more sense that way. Think about it, most tasks that you'll use the plain edge for (in most utility applications) are done with the back portion of the blade, not the front. So, typical part-serrated blades are actually done backward.

Edit: Here, read this thread.

I don't get rid of knives either, so resale is irrelevant to me too... I just appreciate how classy a plain edge or a fully-serrated edge is.

Peace.
