Hello. I decided on getting a large sebbie for my first CRK. I can't decide if i want to go with a plain TI handle or one with micarta inlays. Do plain handles provide good grip and has anyone ever had a problem with inlays coming out or breaking? Are inlays worth the extra money or are they just for looks? Any info would be great!

Start with the plain. You can go nutty later! The inserts do not do anything for me. They are not jinto. They are pretty, though.

Just get a plain. Just my opinion but all the graphics or wood inlays make it look ugly.

I'm going with inlays on my first one. I imagine the micarta inlays would be the only ones that could improve grip.
I figure if I'm going to spend that much money on a folder, better make it something I like.

I just got my hands on my first sebbie..went with the lignum inlay and couldnt be happier.
Plain slabs just dont cut it for me, graphics or otherwise.
Good luck on your choice

I personally like.....either one :p you can't go wrong. I have plain and embellished one's and I actually reach for the plain more often. I like the scarred up look of the bead blast from it's endless battles with keys and pocket change :p

I frequently use my small Sebbies as my work EDC. If I have my small regular with me, it works fine with plain scales. But the micarta inlays on the classic model do make that one easier for me to hold and use in a warehouse setting (sometimes with wet hands, sometimes up in the air with only one hand available).

I have a couple of plain classics also and they don't grip as well for me as the micarta one. I haven't had any problem with the inserts working loose on either of the micarta Sebbies that I have, and they are both users.

I like the inserts. They do add a small amount of thickness, plus they look good. Nothing wrong with looking good and getting the job done!!:D:thumbup:

I like the plain ones the best. But, I have one exception to that, and that is the Dog Paws, which is a graphic.

I think so far i'm leaning towards the micarta inlays but i was wondering if someone could discribe the texture of the material? Is it hard? Rubbery? Grippy? Rough? Worth the extra $70?

I've had inlays and have had annuals and have also had graphic sebs. Hands down, for a work knife: You can't do better than a Large Regular. I like how you can get your fingers closer to the blade when cutting than with the classic. But really, you can't go wrong with either. If you need a smaller knife, the smalls are good too. I prefer the large but when I have to, I carry the small as a work knife as well. Sometimes you gotta carry a more discreet knife :p

The micarta inlaid models have the surrounding surface beadblasted as is the micarta, so you have a non slip surface with it. The micarta is a hard substance, but with it's finish it is grippy. I think it is worth the extra it cost, but you will have to decide what your budget can stand!:D

I have played around with plain janes at shows and shops, and prefer my micarta inserts. If you want to get your Seb "Mayonized", "flitzed" or any other number of second market alterations, I would of course go with the plain models. If you find a great deal on a used plain model, go for it too. If you want a graphic on yours, but can't get it right then and there, go for a plain model and send it in later on down the road.

I also had a large cocobolo for a while. I still feel it was a bad decision to trade it, but the wood inserts made it harder to get a good purchase on.

All my Sebbies are plain and they are not slippery by any means. While I pefer the plain ones some of the inlay ones do look very cool.
Regards

Shike

I find the plain, blasted titanium is grippy enough. I have both inlaid and plain Sebbies and typically carry the plain. I like the look and it is just that little bit thinner and that always helps for an EDC
