Bruce Bump was kind enough to send me one of his pistol folders to play around with.

I know......

I am nuts....

Anyway...feeling particularly brave, I gave it a good firing or two or twenty.....:D......and took 'er down to bare bones.

3 liners, 14 metal pieces and 23 screws later.....

Bruce authorized me to post a few pics of the innards for the forum to see.

So, here goes nuthin....

(thanks again, Bruce)

When you look at it, it seems simple enough. Just a few mechanical actions supported by springs, etc.

But once I took it all apart and looked at each piece separately, I had a much better appreciation for all the work and forethough put into getting something like this together.

Here are some pictures of a few of the complicated pieces. Not something I imagine you can knock out on your 2x72.....

John, you.....uhhh.....jumped the gun....*groan*

:D

Cool, what kind of knock down power does it have? And did you get it back together? :D

Oh man, that's cooler'n a moose! I've always wondered what these things look like on the inside. Does the trigger fold into the handle? And what position is the hammer in normally? I'm going to have to study these pics a while to see if I can figure out how this thing works. I'm at a bit of a disadvantage because I've never taken a "regular" gun down far enough to see how it works either.

Thanks for the pics Dan, and Bruce thank you for the opportunity to see this!

I'm really amazed at how clean the lockwork on this is  No fancy gizmos or anything just a clean well engineered layout. No wasted space anywhere. Looks like it will last several generations . I just can't say enough, I was impressed as hell when I saw the first one, and now that I see whats inside it I'm blown away
Keep up the great work Bruce, and thanks for sharing it with us

Nice!!! Do you have a pic with the hammer cocked back??/ I would like to see how everything engages.

I didn't know you were building that style Bruce. I spent a lot of time this evening looking at the pictures. Very nice design and construction.

One of the thing that I'm not seeing though, is the attachment for the barrel. I'm assuming that it is lugged into the frame and either pinned or held there with set screws. Just a guess though.

I love the toggle sear with the folding trigger. Very neat arrangement.

Then I got to the folder side. Pure Genius!

Nice setup and it is certainly up to your usual standards.

I'm working on a slapper action now. One spring, one moving part. I'll send you a picture when I finish. That would allow you to have an even more compact design.

Dam......... Another thing on to do list.
Don I will probably need help. Start with long guns and maybe work in this direction. To mich to do ...To little time.

.
don it looks to me like it's pined in
look at the barrel ....
just under it
it looks like part of the barrel just milled drilled
and pined just thinking out loud :)

nice work Bruce..I like it... :D

I have thought Bruce's gun knives were some of the coolest things I have seen, and am with others here who now have a grewat appreciation for the craftsmanship that goes into them.

Very nice, and thanks for the pics!

Dan, thats one nice piece> I am jealous. Bruce, great work. I am blown away. I can't imagine how many hours went into designing and refining something that sweet...... Thanks for sharing. And Dan thanks for posting. Great pics!

WOW!!! I love Bruce's work. That's a bunch or great pix and now my head hurts from thinking about this and that in them pix. Oww! Thanks Dan, very cool.

Thanks guys! This is just something I whipped up in a day or two :D It is my own design and has several things that need to be changed on the next one. Mostly Im still trying to figure out how to fold the hammer into the frame so it doesnt gouge the hand when using the knife.

Thanks for posting the breakdown, Dan, and thanks for letting us view the guts to that thing, Bruce. I've always been a huge fan of your gun-knives. Question: Is the breech block made of brass, or is that bronze? I can't tell from the pics. Also is it pressed-in, or threaded?
