Ive got a buddy whos brother is in flight training with the navy:thumbup: . A few weeks ago, this guy was flying with his instructor when they hit a buzzard, which went in the windscreen and out the other side of the canopy. They made it on the ground ok, but the bird caused $12k worth of damage to the plane. And somewhere in the process leaving behind no pieces bigger than the gibblets:barf: Here are some pics the govt took of the plane for documentary purposes:

Good lord! That's one dead bird! That dude's lucky not to be too injured. Flying glass at that speed can't be fun.

Bird strikes ain't no joke, a lot of them don't have happy endings, but the wildlife risks pilots deal with aren't limited to birds . Back when I was a young troopie at an air base in Florida, one of the "reoccurring tasks" performed by the security police folks was clearing alligators off the runway. They'd roll out with a pickup truck, and a guy in the bed of the truck would lasso the reptile with a loop of rope on the end of a long pole. The other end of the rope was fastened to the bumper hitch of the truck. Once the rope was in place, they'd drop the transmission in drive and creep off the runway at an idle, with the gator, eventually, waddling dutifully along behind the truck like a dog on a leash.

They never lost a plane to a gator, but I heard a while back that same unit suffered a couple of crashes due to wild hogs darting out onto the runway.

Dayum!!!! I hope that the blood on the guy's face mostly belongs to the buzzard and not him!!!!
That had to be not only dayumed scary but dayumed gross as well. :barf:
There's a few azzwholes here in Oklahoma that shoot buzzards just to watch 'em puke.
Buzzards in and of themselves don't smell as bad as maybe what the average Joe might think, that is unless they've just come off a really high carcass.
But with the degree of stomach acids the birds have along with the stomach contents if the bird had just eaten wouldn't be something I'd want all over me.:barf: :o
I'm sure glad to see that those involved survived, it could've been a helluva lot worse!!!!:(
