Hi guys,

New year is coming and people start reflecting the past and dreaming about the future. My past is a wonderful time in the Middle East. My future is... freely configurable :D

Looking at the world map I am torn between too many places I would love to live in. Malaysia, Angola, Canada, Costa Rica, Norway,...

Let's assume you'd consider planet earth your home and could choose freely where to work and live. Personal relationships like family and friends wouldn't be a factor, only nature (for outdoor activities) and costs of living as well as job-/career opportunities (to finance your INFI addiction).

Where would you go? And why?

Alaska.

Norway. EVERYTHING is bloody expensive but with the funds raised the state of Norway fu**s its inhabitants around a little less and cares a little more.

It may be pretty cold here now and I'm not loving it but I like where I am now. I think the cold makes me appreciate the spring and other seasons more. In the summer it's hot so I can go swimming, and in the winter cold and snow so I can go snowboarding. It's good to have all the seasons and I'm away from the cities and stress. I'm happy.

I've especially enjoyed Japan, Taiwan, France, the Dominican Republic, and Colorado.

If work didn't matter, probably the Phi Phi Islands in Thailand or Bora Bora, and Alaska.

Japan, while expensive, is amazing if you have the right job and such.

Taipei is killer for work/play, and rural/mountainous Taiwan is gorgeous.

Colorado has everything I need except a major city and surfing.

The resort areas and Santo Domingo (in the DR) are awesome.

France is beautiful, with amazing food, and tons to do.

Easy:

South Africa (Cape Town), Alaska (not sure of the city) or Spain (Barcelona).

Not particularly in that order.

.

cold climate,,alaska[visited 3 times love it] warm climate,, puerto rico[cool base for island hopping, inlaws live there and awesome food]

Out of everywhere I've been, I think the Czech Republic would be a coolest place to live for a few years.

And perhaps Spain.

Being Swiss and living in Dubai for 4 years now.. a nice spot for me would be Argentina, especially Buenos Aires. Nice city and people, great food (meeeeeat!!), amazing back country (Patagonia etc), and you can go surfing at the coast or in Punta in Uruguay.
If job opportunity wouldn't count.. Namibia! Stunning landscape, a large country with only 2.5m people, so lots of space for everyone. Buy a hunting farm there and enjoy your days. It is also an offroad paradise for cars and bikes.. gravel, desert, everyting. Plus the Atlantic coast offers nice surfing. And also good meat!!
Sweden would be nice too.. love almost everyting about Sweden.. except the super high taxes! Which makes it a no go for me! Otherwise the cities with good people and food, the woods up north, and all the lakes makes it my favourite in Europe.

As my health starts to improve, my desire to go to New Zealand and/or Mongolia with the Kazakhs has been rekindled. More realistically, I would go back to Alaska. I have enough skills in many trades to do whatever I needed up there and I prefer cool climates with mountains.
