Planing to order few Scandi blades from Europe, and make handles and sheats.I am ordering from B.isa , and there is so many makers over there.Which blades over there are best, period, and which ones are best for price?Money is not object here, will be ordering couple cheaper ones for friend and one or two of more expensive to keep it for myself.I have Puronvarsi and Lauri PT in mind, but theres so many makers and would like to hear your opinion.Thanx! ps,Have couple Moras and Helles, but would like to get something of better quality even though these ones are good too.

For the economy line I'll recommend puronvarsi polar and Lauri Carbon, I'm not saying that is nothing wrong with the PT line but sharpening a scandi grind takes time, the wide bevels have a lot of material to remove and the extra hardness doesn't make it easier. I used to buy Kankapaa too. By the way Lauri blades usually come with secondary bevel.
For the "good" one pick something handforged, vikstrom are good I heard. Roselli is a legend and his work with UHC (ultra high carbon)steel is amazing' IMO anyway.
Also Paul Strande Damascus patterns are incredible
I forgot, last one I made was from Enzo, Nordic blades line in O1 is a great option too
Hope it helps

Which ones have best edge holding and decent toughness?Have you heard of these makers and are they any good (Anssi,VK Tomi by Veijo Käpylä,Verizhnikov Damascus,Fedoriaki, Kustaa Lammi ).I like Puronvarsi mostly for the grind , and Lauri pt has bevel to the middle of blade too. Do not have any experience with Roselli uhc,.

I've been pleased with Enzo, made in Finland, blades. I've purchased 2 - 2 1/2" scandi neckers and a 5" scandi camp knive blade.

Hi Lonestar. I use Lauri, Polar, Puronvarsi, and Enzo, all are great blades. I like the Polar blades for their grind with a ricasso but I like the bigger Lauri blades. Puronvarsi makes wonderful rhombic blades, I prefer his smaller blades and found them well finished and easy to fit the bolster. I bought one of his leuku blades that was a serious pain to deal with at the tang blade join, it took hours of filing to get the right fit to the handle.
Not sure where you are but there is a very good source for all these blades and parts in the US. http://www.thompsonsknives.com/

Best regards

Robin
