I'm planning a day trip down to the hocking hills area with my brother before he leaves for flight school. he'll be flying F-16's and will be in Texas for the next two years for training, so I'd like to have a kind of memorable bike trip before he goes. Has any one rode in that area before and possibly know of anything worth checking out?? just thought I might ask for some ideas. thanks for the help

I never took a bike but I have driven that area a few times. It is a beautiful drive. You guys will have fun even if it is just riding around.

Hocking Hills is so much fun! I have never had a bad time while I'm there.

You should check out the Dragons Tail. It is about a 20 mile section of St. Rte. 78 between Glouster and McConnelsville.

Beef,

If you don't want to go all the way to McConnelsville I would recommend grabbing rt 555 in Zanesville. 555 was considered one of the top 10 motorcycle roads in the nation back when I went to OU. It is curvy and hilly.

I used to grab rt 550 out of Athens to 555 and then bring 715-345-93-216 back to Athens. Rt 550 was always my favorite. I could always get some sparks off the pegs in the long flowing sweepers on 550.

The roads around Hocking are good but not real fast due to traffic and hikers. You can zig zag around the parks and just be aware of the main arteries (56, 374, 180 & 664).

If you want to set a couple rest destinations there are some great restaurants in Athens (The Pub, bagel street, the dinner, pig skin, good fellas pizza and many more), the coffee cup in Nelsonville and Millstone BBQ in Logan right on rt 33.

It wouldn't be the worst idea to ride to the Columbus area the evening before, grad a hotel and catch a clippers game. That way you aren't tired in the twisties.

I lived in Athens for a couple years and averaged 12K miles/year on my bike. let me know if you have an specific questions.
