Anyone else plan out your purchases in advance? I like to keep a list of knives to buy each month, and I try to keep it to one a month. Here's the next few months on my list:

Centofante III
Mini-Griptilian
Fallkniven U2
Spyderco Delica
Kershaw Leek
Browning Ice Storm
EKA Swede 60
German Eye Sodbuster Jr.

That is about $400 to spend in the next 8 months, although it'll probably end up being more than that.

i usually have a good idea of what i want to buy ahead of time. i'm not the kind to browse newgraham or ebay and pick something out on the spur of the moment. i do have a wishlist for higher-end stuff, but there's no particular order to it.

I wouldn't say I plan my purchases in advance but I have a general idea of what I would like to try next. I also do a lot of research before I actually commit to buying a new knife.

I plan what to buy just so I can get a decent price...then I look around and wait till I do...I try not to go too crazy

Since moving more towards customs, I've been having to plan out more because the price ranges that I've been shopping in are pretty expensive for me. Prior to that I just had an idea of which knives I wanted next and if I saw a good price, I'd jump on it.

I usually let emotions control my knife habit. Expensive, yes, but keeps the juices flowing.

I plan my purchases. I have a wish list and a monthly budget and make sure I stick to both. I keep data on avg knife prices for what I want so I know a good price when I see it (usually).

I have a mental list of knives or makers in which I am interested. Nothing real organized. When I work OT, I take a portion of the extra for something I want. The rest goes into the house account. OT is sporadic, so sometimes it is a long time between new cutters.

Since I am single now, and ALL my divorce expenses are finally over, I do plan out purchases. I do not have a written list, but I do have one in my head. So far I have been able to stick to my list, although a spur of the moment did pop up a month or so ago, there is no guarantee that it won't happen again!

I also keep a mental list of makers that I want. Then sometimes a knife will pop up that really "speaks" to me, and I have to have it.

I have a plan just not written down. I decide what I want and then save the money to buy it. Then its like waiting for a child to be born waiting for it to show up.

I usually plan months in advance, sometimes years.
For example, I know I am going to get the Stop lock version of the Spyderco Military. It may take another four years for Sal to get around to finishing it, but I plan on buying one.
Most knives I keep on a list, every few months something will come out that's worth placing an order for, and I'll take a few off the top at the same time (buying bulk saves on shipping costs).

I've been aching for an SMF since I returned my Digi SMF for a plain SnG, thinking about a SMF GG G10 with standard Ti.

I usually know what I want next... I just never know WHEN I can get it. My work/funds usually come in un-planable lumps.. I've recently come into buying/trading knives... I've been such a Sebenzanista for toooooooo long... I thought they were the only thing that existed! I'm very happy to have snapped out of it. Now I can have a few Benchmades, a few spydies or whatever... not JUST one! ..though... most pass through my hands after a few months. I've been eyeing a Grip 550HG for a couple months now, and have one on the way now..(thanks.pedicabdriver) I do know that there is a RAT in my future... though I'm not sure if its an RC-3 or the upcoming Izula..
All in all, I am a 'user" and kinda looking for a good few that suit me. I will say that the Spydie Military is the tops so far... not tooooo expensive and the best "package" I've ever owned/used.
