So I have an older Ranger RD9 and have a few questions regarding some mods I'd like to do to it.

1) Is the blade finish powder coat or epoxy? I want to strip the coating off and do a forced patina. So far paint stripper has worked on my other knives like my BK2, Condor Hudson Bay, and some CS hawks.

2) Is there a place I can get some replacement grip hardware? I took the original screws out a while back to do some shaping of the scales. In the process I stripped one of the brass bushings. At the time I contacted Justin Gingrich and he suggested I contact Ontario. They sent me a replacement set, but the brass bushings were a bit taller to accommodate the newer thicker scales. The scales fit tight, but I can tell there is a little bit of area underneath not making contact with the scales. I'm afraid the may work lose if it is used for some heavy chopping. I could contact Ontario again, but I'm sure they don't have the older types.

If anybody can help out with any of this I would greatly appreciate it.

I stripped my older Ranger RD-6 effortlessly with paint stripper. You should have no problems with your older RD-9.
I'm guessing Justin would be the go to guy regarding the screws for the thinner scales. Not sure why he suggested Ontario originally. Best of luck.
