I was out trying to track some game and find some new good spots to set my snares, and I happen to stumble across these bushes. They were alot of them, and I'm always on the lookout for edibles while out in the woods, and I noticed these "berries" on the bush. When I first found them, the berries were very light green and at first I thought they could possibly be unripe blueberries. Over the past couple weeks I went back periodically to check the bushes and progress of the berries and over time they started to color. Some were red, some almost purple, but none quite a distictive blue.

I checked today, and alot of the berries had turned but none of them really looked like a real blueberry to me but I'm no botanist or anything. Alot of the berries had fallen on the ground, yet they were still a purple/red color which leads me to believe they aren't blueberries. I like to be 100% before I eat anything in the wild, and so I took a few pictures to show you guys and perhaps someone with some experience could verify the plant for me.

Any ideas? I know blueberries also have a crown like the one in the last picture, but I'm just not sure. I tried to take pictures so you guys could see leaves, berries, stems, etc. Thanks ahead of time, guys. Here's to hoping these are blueberries. mmmm homemade blueberry pancakes.

Take a berry, put it in your lower front lip, squeeze just the smallest amount, if it tastes like blueberry, it probably is, but don't swallow, let it sit for 20-30 minutes.

No numbness or bitterness, eat the dang berry, wait 24 hours and try a second berry, still tasting like a blueberry?

Then it's probably a blueberry, by now all the green ones should be that much closer to being ripe and ready for eating.

I remember my grandma in Germany telling me
something about "no,you cant eat those,
see, they are ripe and fallen off the bush, but even the birds
havent eaten them"...
I was about 10,
true or not,Ive never forgotten that.
If I dont know what it is,I aint eatin it.

I feel the same way. Even though these look alot like blueberries and I'm almost sure they are, I'm not 100% sure so I don't know about eating them. I tried looking at the site the other guy recommended but I couldn't figure out if it was them or not. I'll wait around and perhaps someone else will pipe in and give me a sure answer.

They are blueberries. Of course, I'm just some guy on the internet. Staggered leaves, floret on the bottom of the fruit. I also have 8 blueberry plants on my property. Eat them and be merry. There is no other plant that looks like that.
