Ive have accses to ptaw welder, and i can weld a tungston carbide bead onto onto softer metal base in the manufacturing of a knife.

just wondering if any one on here has experince wiht this technique, ie how much carbide I should leave on the edge when im grinding it off

the one I screwed around with is just crazy sharp, and will hold an edge for hours while cutting metal sheets.

oh i took an old paper cutter, and did the carbide bead on it, ground it sharp, andn Ive I've been using to cut 1/32" sheets of aluminum. we use it for shimming stuff on some of the other machery at work.

It's a very interesting idea.
I would be very surprised if a little flexing of the blade wouldn't result in catastrophic failure of the edge, however.
Sounds like a fun thing to experiment with, however. You never know what you'll discover.

Somewhere I have an old [30 years] paring knife with a soft stainless blade with a strip of carbide on one side of the edge. It's interesting ,you could cut anything with it; cans, cardboard etc. It wasn't for fine cutting of course.I think it would be better as a workshop utility knife .I think I should try to find it.
